Learn greetings in Japanese Sign Language (JSL) from the previously introduced “Ordering in cafe” video.
In the video, about 7 seconds into the video, the cafe staff greets a customer with “good afternoon,” so let’s learn this expression! “Good afternoon,” “good morning,” and “good evening” use the time-of-day expression ⌚ and the bow expression 🙇 continously.
Good Afternoon / Hello
To say “good afternoon,” first hold up the index and middle fingers of one hand as if representing the hour and minute hands of a clock.

Next, bend the index fingers of both hands as if bowing, imagining them as facing the person facing you.

Good Morning
To say “good morning,” first move one fisted hand diagonally downward from the side of your face, imagining it as a pillow. This is like getting up from the pillow.

Next, a bow 🙇

Good Evening
To say “good evening,” first open both palms, turn them inward, and then rotate you elbows downwards, like the sun setting, from the side of your face to the bottom.

Next, a bow 🙇

That’s it for greetings in JSL! They follow a set pattern, so they’re easy to remember, aren’t they? ✨ In addition to the “good afternoon” I introduced this time, you can learn other expressions to say “one,” “drink,” and more by watching the video ⬇️ 📹 ✨ Watch this video and let’s learn JSL expressions together 💪
